“…Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’” (John 3:3 NIV)
Settling into my seat, I eagerly waited for the church Christmas program to begin. The production began a little slow with a medley of old Christmas songs sung by an impeccable voice. It was good but the Holy Spirit had not yet made His appearance.
Then as the story of Christmas was revealed in scripture, the Spirit of God fell among us like freshly fallen snow. Ever so gently, the Lord covered us all in a blanket of His goodness. Now the focus was no longer on those on stage but on Jesus! It was fearfully awesome and breathtaking!
He forgives and forgets!
As I soaked up the Lord’s presence, I experienced something that had occurred in times past. A little voice began to call up all my ugly faults and failures from long ago. And like a parrot I began repeating them one after another. But the Lord was silent. He acted as if He never knew that I had done anything wrong. He had not only forgiven my sins but FORGOT them all—past, present, and future! At that moment there was nothing except HIM and me experiencing the privilege of sitting in the presence of my divine King!
The Lord declares in Jeremiah 31:34 (NIV), “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people… For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
The new birth
Our sins are forgiven and forgotten ONLY if we have entered into a new, living relationship with God. Those who are unrepentant and have not asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior are still under God’s wrath. The only way to become free from the guilt and penalty of sin is to accept Jesus’s atonement for one’s sins and become “born again.” That’s why Jesus said in John 3:27 (NLT), “You MUST be born again.” There is no other way to find peace now or enjoy eternal life unless a person becomes born again by the Spirit of God. Have you been born again?
If you aren’t sure where you will spend eternity (and by the way there are ONLY two places of eternal residency—with Jesus or without Him!), then today, without putting it off another minute, why don’t you make your future certain and secure. With all sincerity, pray the Prayer for Salvation on this page. And get into a good church that will help you learn more about your newfound faith as you grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Prayer for Salvation
Dear Jesus, I know I’m not perfect—I’ve said and done things I know were wrong. And no matter how “good” I think I am, I will never be good enough nor perform enough “good deeds” to pay for my sins.
Titus 3:5-7 (NLT) says that, “…he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit… Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”
I’m sorry, Lord, for my sins, and I ask you to please forgive me. Jesus, you died on a cross to pay for all my sins so that I could be forgiven and found not guilty before you. I accept your sacrifice for my sins and I invite you now to come into my life, make me a new person, and give me eternal life. I ask you to be my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for giving me everlasting life! Amen.
