Seeking unity in Christ

By Keith Boutte

Psalm 119:79 (NLT) Let me be united with all who fear you, with those who know your laws.

King David’s desire was for the people who know God to unite, to be one in spirit and truth. Imagine a nation united in Christ Jesus. God has made a covenant with all of mankind through Jesus who is the new covenant between God and all.

Jesus tells us in Luke 22:20 (NLT) After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people — an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.

God’s desire for unity with man is so great he sacrificed Jesus the Christ to have this covenant. Now the covenant has become a relationship between God and man through Christ Jesus our Lord. This relationship with God also requires His people to love each other.

John 15:12-13 (NLT) This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Christ Jesus commands that his body love one another. So how does the body unite?

The answer is US, we the body have separated from fellowship with each other. We separate over how we pray, how we worship, how we dress, how we congregate and where we congregate. It seems we in the American church have found more ways to separate than congregate.

The church suffers from separation. There may be a church on every corner yet there is no fellowship between them. The lie that we should not talk about religion or politics is rampant in society.

People of God must unite, we must gather beyond the four walls of our churches. God’s word says we must unite to proclaim God’s way.

Kingdom people united in this nation would bring back God’s favor upon it. It would have Godly morals and values written into law to reflect God’s word.

Jesus died for a new nation, a new way of fellowshipping with God, whose people would honor and obey God according to His word. A nation or kingdom that will cross over any border, glorify God under any government, obey God at any cost and overcome any weapon formed against it by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony! A Kingdom united for God.

Jesus in describing this kingdom said, John 17:20-21 (NLT) I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

Jesus laid the foundation he would die for to establish his kingdom. God the Holy Spirit would live inside of these kingdom people and lead them by his spirit creating unity with God and fellow believers!

Philippians 2:1-5 (NLT) Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?

Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Now we, the body of Christ’s kingdom, are mandated to share this message to those who don’t know our loving Father. We are to unite in love to show His love.

Ephesians 4:2-4 (NLT) Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

In Lafayette, Louisiana and the surrounding areas, pastors are meeting together to unite the body and bring the Kingdom of God together. Pray for these Pastors that a Holy fire would burn down the walls of separation in the Kingdom and unite the body of Christ for the glory of God.

Covenant Spotlight believes God has done the work to unite the church. Every heavy yoke has been broken every division defeated every doubt destroyed by Christ Jesus our Lord.

Now it’s up to us the Church to break down the walls and unite in Jesus’ love to bring His Kingdom together.

As Jesus said in John 17:23 (NLT), “I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”

Love is always victorious but must be given to be effective. May we love each other well and together bringing the harvest into His kingdom.
