Amen and AMEN!!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼Back in March when we closed for Covid-19 our store front door was vandalized and it cost us a grand to get it fixed. We had the guilty party on video, he was identified within minutes and arrested soon after.
I received all sorts of texts and messages about this person ...homeless, hopeless, worthless, useless, troublemaker, addict, no good, a criminal and with each descriptive word I read, I felt pain, my heart ached and I knew God would set up a meeting between us when the time was right.
Today the time was right, 5 months later and I had almost forgotten about him....but God didn’t.
Someone notified me that he was in the store, some thought how dare he even show up after what he had done! My flesh wanted to think the same thing.
...he was in a corner, alone, eyeing some specialty merchandise and I asked him “ You plan on paying for those....right?” He had attitude and I introduced myself as the person who had to pay a thousand dollars for his act of vandalism. He hung his head and said not only did he get arrested but also beat up for his actions. I told him “well there’s consequences for your actions and I think you need to work it off...the thousand dollars.”
I’m not sure if he agreed or not because he asked for a bike???? I think I counted to three in my mind for the audacity of him asking for a bike....I looked him dead in the eye and said which one? In our pavilion?
I know right? But you see God dealt with me in those three seconds of silent counting. All those words that describe him earlier were ringing in my ears and heart, God whispered in my ear....GRACE, show him my SON.
It was the most expensive bike we had for sale and I asked him “You gonna pawn it, sell it, trade it for drugs? If you are, then you can’t work for it” He shook his head no as I asked him all those questions and I said “ok, let’s get you some work to do.”
Let me stop here and say how proud I am of every single person that works/volunteers at Care Help. They may think I’m crazy sometimes, but they showed that boy respect when he felt so worthless, they gave him hope when he feels so hopeless, they put him to work when he felt so useless, they fed him, they thanked him, they showed him JESUS. And that my friends is what it is all about!
He worked his tail off for 5 hours, never complained. What will he do with the bike 🤷🏻♀️
It was never really about the bike anyway...it’s about Jesus, Grace and Mercy.
