Timeline PhotosAnatomy Friday — OXYTOCIN!
This is one of my FAVORITES components found in the placenta and proven through studies to be still present in placenta capsules that are properly encapsulated!
Oxytocin is the love hormone. It's the bonding hormone for you and baby and anyone else in your life you adore. It makes us feel calm and loved and supported and virtually hugged. It produces antidepressant-like effects. It increases our trust and romantic attachment.
Oxytocin is a peptide hormone and neuropeptide. It is normally produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary. It plays a role in social bonding, sexual reproduction, childbirth, and the period after childbirth. Oxytocin is released into the bloodstream as a hormone in response to stretching of the cervix and uterus during labor and with stimulation of the nipples from breastfeeding. This helps with birth, bonding with the baby, and milk production.
Estrogen has been found to increase the secretion of oxytocin and to increase the expression of its receptor, the oxytocin receptor, in the brain. Oxytocin levels in plasma rise during sexual stimulation and orgasm. Oxytocin is also thought to modulate inflammation by decreasing certain cytokines.
We have several studies into placental composition.
The placenta is amazing and powerful.
