Bold peace

A time such as this

By Amanda Elliott

You were born for a time such as this.

Right now, a storm is brewing and it’s breaking forth. It doesn’t matter where you fall in your beliefs or how you voted, the storm is still here. It’s scattered and it’s messy.

It’s enough for some people to want to head to a bunker. It’s easy to look at a news report and feel defeated.

But, you were born for a time such as this. Don’t ever doubt it. In the Psalms we are reminded the Lord knit us together in the womb. He knew you before you were born. He knew the time and the place to which you would arrive. And He knew that through Him you could handle this storm. He knew that when you leaned on Him, however broken or confused or fearful that you could face whatever is next. He knew that the world needed one of you right now.

Do not cower behind wisdom and hide your face in times like these. Do not believe the lie that you cannot live with a peaceful heart in the midst of turmoil and agony. And never believe that you cannot be both broken hearted and confident. Because you know the One who restores. The One who redeems. Do not buy the lie of any church that laments these times as something God didn’t know was coming or this generation as hopeless or helpless.

You were born for a time such as this.

It’s a quote from the book of Esther. She was a beautiful Jewish girl, who by divine appointment married the king who happened to have an adviser with a plan to destroy all of her people. The very existence of the Jewish people rested on this one beautiful young woman. She had a chance in a time and place to do the bold thing and speak up for her people. It’s a pretty famous snippet of a verse “Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NLT)

Who knows if you were placed in your school? In your workplace? In your home? In your neighborhood? In your family? In your political station? For a time such as this. A time to be both bold and peaceful. A time to do more than find the calm in the middle of a world that seems to be raging … a time to BE the calm.

It is time to be the walking, breathing, fearless answer in a world full of questions.

We need not shout and lament. The world has enough of that.

You were born for a time such as this.

And because you know the One who is the absolute answer, all these things are possible. Call to Him. He promises to show you. “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

I’ve had enough of the incompressible pain and confusion—incomprehensible division and anger and incomprehensible rifts between God’s beloved children. Today I’m committing to call to Him. Desperate for His incomprehensible. Thirsty for the great things I do not know that belong to Him.

You were born for a time such as this. Do not let this day or this time send you into hiding. Let it call you out. Let these incomprehensibly painful times in our world lead you to the One who has a well of incomprehensible peace and joy. And then bring it to the world.
