Where is your beauty
By Kelly Mouisset
There is nothing sweeter than watching children playing. They don’t see beauty or flaws. They see a friend. I watched them share their toys and snacks. One child helped another up the ladder they were fearful to climb. They played chase and kicked a ball around. I watched two of them try and put a third on a swing they were too short to reach. I watched the beauty of these children’s hearts. They didn’t see color, size or gender. They saw a creation of God.
Just imagine our world if we still saw each other as we did as children. What if we never saw shades of skin, sizes of bodies or the look of someone’s face? What if we dug deeper into the souls of those around and sought out kindness, gentleness and thoughtfulness as beauty? What if we looked past the exterior and sought after the look of someone’s soul?
Beauty is truly deeper than the outer appearance. Beauty is found in our actions towards others. It is a smile that touches someone’s heart. It is a kind word to someone who is struggling. It is helping someone who can’t help themselves. We should all be striving more for inner beauty than we do for outer beauty.
What if for every hour we worked on our outer appearance we spent 15 minutes on our inner beauty? What if we molded our minds as much as we molded our abs? What if we saw past appearances in others and looked for their inner beauty instead?
Such little changes in our own lives would be huge changes in the world around us. What does beauty look like to you? Is your outer image masking the “ugliness” inside you or is your inner beauty so powerful that it is all others see? Maybe it’s time we all stop trying to look beautiful and begin to just “be” beautiful instead.
Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.”(NIV)
