Are you a real man? Are you a real man?
Are you a real man?

What does God say?

By Kelly Mouisset

According to Psalms 1:1, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.”(ESV)

As we celebrate fathers this month, I began to think about how we define being a man. Is it growing a beard or having brute strength? Is it fighting in the street for an area? Is it cooking dinner and changing diapers? Is it having the most women? Is it driving a sports car or a van?

In this day and age being a man seems confusing. Lines are being blurred and definitions are getting skewed. That pushed me to think about what a man should be, especially since I am raising three of them at the moment.

I looked to the Bible to see how God defined a real man. Real men hold each other accountable. Real men speak life into the people in their lives. Real men love the Lord and are not ashamed to show it. Real men show emotion. Real men love their wives. Real men teach their children about God through their words and actions. Real men respect others and themselves. Real men ask for and give forgiveness.

So yes, men grow beards, cook dinner, change diapers, and drive whatever vehicle they are blessed with, but real men do all of that while following God’s Word and allowing God to lead their way.

I pray that we have more real men in this world who live according to God’s Word. Men who refuse to conform to this world and hold themselves and others to God’s standards. This world would be a stronger place for all of us.
