Who is speaking truth to your soul?

By Kelly Mouisset

I am a loner. Always have been. One of my first memories as a child is playing alone with my wooden blocks and a box. I would build homes and ranches with long driveways. I created all kinds of places and spent hours there visiting with all kinds of people. I had quite the imagination.

I also loved hanging out with the neighborhood kids for hours playing kick ball, softball, tag and hide and seek. Always a friend somewhere around if you wanted one.

Fast forward to adulthood and I found myself busy raising boys and playing taxi. Not much alone time and not as much time for friendships. I found my life becoming a tunnel and realized I needed true connection in my life. My first opportunity came as I joined a small group at our church. It gave me what I craved. Connection. Friendships. Opportunities for others to speak life into some dry spots.

I could have chosen to stay alone but I kept reminding myself that I needed friends to speak into my life. They held me accountable, kept me connected and my heart open to love. God uses people in our lives to strengthen us when we are weak. To file down the rough edges and guide us to be better versions of ourselves.

Who surrounds you and speaks life into your heart? We all need people who draw out the best in us and speak life into our souls.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.  For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up. ~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
