Great churches in Lafayette

By Nick Sigur

Our area is blessed with many great churches. Everyone should be able to find a comfortable place to worship. Most of them are traditional in that they are located at a specific address, but there are some exciting exceptions.

One of this area’s largest churches has numerous locations throughout the area. This allows the church the benefits of size while providing cozier neighborhood locations. Our Savior’s Church (OurSaviorsChurch.com) has Broussard, Lafayette, Opelousas and Midtown campuses. One of the locations will provide you with a nearby church home with great worship and preaching.

There are also a number of “boutique” churches that share a location with an established home church. These churches provide a worship experience for a more specialized congregation.

Trinity Anglican Church (trinitylafayette.com) meets at Church of the Trinity, 3001 Verot School Road in Lafayette at 9 a.m. on Sundays. Anglicanism is an ancient Christian tradition from England, often described as a middle way between Protestantism and Roman Catholicism. They are part of the Anglican Church in North America. Peter Johnston is the founding pastor of Trinity Anglican Church.

Church Acadiana meets at the Celebrity Theatre in Broussard at 10 a.m. on Sundays. Check them out a churchacadiana.com. 337-856-9902. Church Acadiana is family integrated. They keep families together and teach parents how to discipline their kids at home. On Sundays you’ll experience verse-by-verse Bible teaching and passionate praise music. Home groups meet weekly for prayer, fellowship, and deeper study of Sunday’s sermon.

There are plenty of options for a comfortable place to worship. But is that what you should be looking for? Shouldn’t church challenge and foster our growth? Maybe if you are comfortable in your church, it’s time to check out a place where you won’t be comfortable but where you will be useful and groomed for growth.
