A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you. (Psalm 84:10-12 NLT)
Oh, God I prayed this morning, “Why is it so hard to abide in your presence all day long?” In my mind, I could see myself in a violent ocean clinging to a jagged rock. The waves billowed and crashed over me one by one and I can barely catch my breath. The Lord replied, “It is only hard to abide when you are not fully surrendered to Me.”
The Christian life only gets hard when there are other things (and other loves) that we allow to pull us away from the Almighty. God doesn’t just want part of us, He wants all of us! And though our society is accustomed to multi-tasking, our hearts were never designed to be divided or compartmentalized. Like any good marriage, both the man and woman must be fully devoted to one another if it is to be healthy and strong. There is no room for other little loves – that would only weaken the bond of matrimony.
1 John 2:15-17 (NLT) says, “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
If you feel tired today – as though you are barely clinging to the Rock then all the Lord is asking you to do right now is to surrender all to Him. Listen to His wisdom and direction and you will find safety, strength, and great peace.
